Dero - Subterranean Parasites & the Download Hypothesis

Introduction

In 1945, American writer Richard Sharpe Shaver claimed to have received a "download" of information revealing the existence of a hidden race called the Dero. According to his accounts, the Dero lived underground and possessed ancient technology capable of projecting “rays” that could harm, manipulate, or control human beings on the surface. This revelation became the cornerstone of what is now known as the Shaver Mystery.

Dero and Archons

Shaver’s Dero bear striking resemblance to the Archons described in the Gnostic scriptures discovered at Nag Hammadi in 1945—the very same year Shaver’s stories began circulating. Like the Archons, the Dero are portrayed as parasitic forces that feed on human suffering, thrive on deception, and seek to keep humanity trapped in ignorance. Both are hidden controllers, influencing thought and perception from behind the veil. This parallel has led some to suggest that Shaver may have tapped into the same archetypal current that the ancient Gnostics described nearly two thousand years earlier.

Tero and Aeons

Shaver also spoke of a benevolent counterpart to the Dero, whom he called the Tero. While less frequently emphasized in his writings, the Tero were said to use similar ray technologies for healing, protection, and enlightenment. In Gnostic cosmology, this role is mirrored by the Aeons—emanations of divine wisdom that counter the Archons by helping awaken the human soul to its true origin. If the Dero are akin to Archons, the Tero may be understood as modern echoes of the Aeons.

Rays of Control and Liberation

Central to Shaver’s download were the mysterious “rays”—energetic projections capable of shaping thought, health, and destiny. He described destructive rays wielded by the Dero, as well as beneficial rays in the hands of the Tero. This duality mirrors broader currents in human history: Nikola Tesla’s much-rumored “death ray” suggested a weapon of devastating potential, while esoteric traditions such as the Ascended Masters spoke of “healing rays” that uplift and restore. In this light, both science and mysticism converge on the same theme: rays as instruments of either domination or liberation. For Shaver, they symbolized the eternal conflict between parasitic forces that feed on fear and benevolent forces seeking to awaken humanity.

Implications

Whether understood as psychological archetypes, ancient myths resurfacing, or transmissions received through the Download Hypothesis, the Dero/Tero narrative cannot easily be dismissed. It intersects with both modern UFO lore and ancient Gnostic cosmology, raising the question: are these patterns evidence of independent imagination, or are they fragments of a hidden reality breaking through into human consciousness?
